Labor and Birth

This private birth class will give you a deeper understanding of the labor and birth process, and prepare you for your baby's birthday. We will cover useful anatomy and physiology, learn about relaxation and coping methods for labor pain, and talk about common interventions and situations you might encounter. Whether you plan to birth your baby (or babies!) in the hospital, at home, or in a birth center, this class will help you and your birth partner have a more satisfying birth experience.

Newborn Care, Newborn You, and The Postpartum Family

Nothing can prepare you for having a baby? This class can! After taking this class, you know that you can create a safe space for baby to sleep and play, how to take care of the umbilical cord, change diapers and give baths, and recognize signs and symptoms of illnesses. We will also cover the transition to becoming a postpartum person and family. You will learn what you can expect regarding your body and emotions in those first days and weeks after birth, and how you can support your recovery.

Nursing

This class will help you establish that first latch, and give you the knowledge and skills you need to start your breastfeeding journey. I have lots of tips and tricks for positioning, prevention of sore nipples, pumping, and many more topics.

This course includes a phone or video-conference call during your first week postpartum to help you troubleshoot any difficulties you might encounter, and celebrate the triumphs you have booked!

As a midwife, it has been my passion and privilege to guide people on their journey to and through parenthood.

I believe that by giving people the right toolsskills and knowledge, they can have a better birth experience.

The Evidence Based Birth® courses that I teach will give you the skills to make informed choices. You will learn how to respectfully communicate with your healthcare providers about the care that works for you.

Take a look at the Savvy Birth Workshop for parents and Savvy Birth 101 courses below.

Are you looking forward to having a baby, but are you worried about all the unknowns? For example: how do I know if my wishes will be respected? Will my birth plan be followed? Can I avoid a traumatic birth experience, if I had one before?

The Savvy Birth Workshop for parents was developed by Evidence Based Birth® to give you and your partner the confidence and know-how you need to have a more positive, empowering experience in the birthing room.

At the Savvy Birth Workshop, you’ll learn ways to communicate effectively with your doctor, midwife, and nurse. You will discover strategies for asking questions without seeming disrespectful and you’ll get the inside scoop on how to stack the odds in your favor of having a positive birth.

Unlike other childbirth classes, I will help you avoid the typical assembly-line birth care by letting you in on six ways to personalize and improve your birthing experience. This will give you a secret advantage to coping with the unknowns of birth.

At the workshop you’ll find out how you can use these skills in the hospital, or wherever you intend to give birth.

I am excited to offer the Savvy Birth Workshop to parents in the greater Olympia community. I firmly believe that the knowledge you will gain from the Savvy Birth Workshop will leave you and your partner inspired, hopeful, and excited about the upcoming birth of your baby.

You'll be ready to approach the big day with a savvy swing in your step!

The Savvy Birth Workshop will be taught at "the Harbor House" at Percival Landing in Downtown Olympia. The cost is $45. You are encouraged to bring your partner or one pregnancy or labor support person. Click here to find out when the next course will be taught!

Refund policy: Tickets are non-refundable, but may be transferred to future workshops or seminars.
